Import to Claude

2 min read

Once you have generated your memory pack with the AI Migrator, here is how to use it in Claude for personalized conversations.

Option A: Add to Claude's Memory (Recommended)

The easiest way to import your context is to drop it into a chat and ask Claude to remember it. This way, Claude will know about you across all future conversations — not just within a single project.

  1. Download your profile

In the AI Migrator, download your full profile as Markdown or JSON.

  2. Open a new Claude chat

Go to claude.ai and start a new conversation.

  3. Drop the file or paste your profile

Drag and drop the downloaded file directly into the chat, or open the file and paste its contents. Then send this prompt:

“This is my personal profile and preferences exported from another AI assistant. Please store all of this information in your memory so you can reference it in future conversations.”

TIP
Make sure Claude's memory feature is enabled: go to Settings > Capabilities > Memory and ensure it is turned on. Otherwise Claude won't be able to save the context.

Quick Import: Use Claude's Memory Import Tool

Claude also has a built-in memory import page at claude.com/import-memory. This lets you import memories from another AI chat directly. However, this only covers saved memories — it does not include insights extracted from your conversation history. For a step-by-step walkthrough of this approach (and two other free methods), see our guide on switching from ChatGPT to Claude without the AI Migrator. For a more complete profile, use Option A above with the output from the AI Migrator, which analyzes your full conversation history and combines it with your memories into a richer, more detailed profile.

Option B: Set Personal Preferences

Claude has a personal preferences field that applies across all conversations. You can fill it with a concise version of your profile.

  1. Generate concise preferences from your profile

Open a Claude chat, paste your full AI Migrator profile, and send this prompt:

“Based on this profile, create a concise summary for Claude's personal preferences field. Focus on: who I am, how I like you to communicate with me, and my key projects. Keep it short and direct.”

  2. Open Claude Settings

Go to claude.ai, click your profile icon, then Settings.

  3. Go to General > Personal Preferences

In Settings, go to General and find “What personal preferences should Claude consider in responses?”. Paste the generated text and save.

TIP
Personal preferences apply to all conversations automatically. This is a great complement to Option A — memory stores detailed facts, while preferences set the tone for every interaction.

Option C: Add Projects to Claude's Project Instructions

If the AI Migrator detected specific projects you're working on, you can give Claude deeper context on each one by adding them to a Claude Project.

  1. Download individual projects

In the AI Migrator review page, find the Projects section. Each project has its own Download button — click it to save that project's context as a file.

  2. Create a Claude Project

In Claude, click Projects in the left sidebar, then Create project. Name it after the project you want to continue.

  3. Add the project context

Open your new project and go to Project Knowledge. Either paste the project context into Custom Instructions or upload the downloaded file. Claude will reference this context in every conversation within the project.

TIP
Use Option A for your general profile (who you are, preferences, goals) and Option B for specific projects you want to continue working on. They complement each other.
TIP
You can update your memory pack at any time by re-running the migrator. Paste the updated profile into a new chat and ask Claude to update its memory.
NOTE
Claude Projects are available on Claude Pro and Team plans. If you are on the free plan, use Option A — pasting into a chat and asking Claude to remember works on all plans.
