Import to Gemini

2 min read

After building your memory pack with the AI Migrator, you can load it into Gemini so every conversation benefits from your personal context.

Google's “Switch to Gemini” feature

Google recently launched a built-in import feature called Switch to Gemini, which lets you upload your full chat history from ChatGPT or Claude as a zip file. Gemini then uses that history to learn about you.

The catch? It imports everything. Every random question, every throwaway conversation, every late-night rabbit hole — it all goes into Gemini. That's a lot of noise, and you may not want to hand over your entire chat history from another platform.

If you want a cleaner experience where you only share what actually matters — your preferences, your projects, your working style — that's what the AI Migrator does. We extract the signal from the noise and build a structured memory profile. Your conversations are processed and immediately deleted; we never store or read them. So if data privacy is a concern, this is the safer route.

If you're comfortable sharing everything with Google, their built-in feature works fine. But if you want control over what Gemini knows about you, keep reading.

Option A: Instructions for Gemini (Recommended)

The easiest way to import your context is through Gemini's built-in instructions feature. This makes your profile available across all Gemini conversations automatically.

  1. Download your profile

In the AI Migrator, download your full profile as Markdown or plain text.

  2. Open Gemini Settings

Go to gemini.google.com, click Settings and help (the gear icon), then select Instructions for Gemini.

  3. Generate concise instructions from your profile

Instructions for Gemini works best with a concise summary. Open a Gemini chat, paste your full AI Migrator profile, and send this prompt:

“Based on this profile, create a concise instruction text for Gemini's ‘Instructions for Gemini’ settings. Focus on: who I am, my communication preferences, and my active projects. Keep it direct and actionable.”

  4. Add the instructions

Click the + Add button and paste the generated instructions. This tells Gemini about your preferences, background, and working style.

  5. Save

Click Save. Gemini will now use your profile as context in every new conversation.

TIP
Instructions for Gemini persist across all sessions. Once saved, every conversation will benefit from your personal context automatically.

Option B: Create a Gem

If you prefer to have your context available only in specific conversations, you can create a Gem — a personalized AI persona.

  1. Open the Gem manager

In the left sidebar, click Gem manager, then click New Gem. Give it a name like “Personal Assistant” or “My Context”.

  2. Paste your memory pack as instructions

In the Gem configuration, paste the full contents of your memory pack into the Instructions text area.

  3. Save and start chatting

Click Save. Start a new conversation using this Gem for personalized interactions.

TIP
Use Option A for always-on context across all chats. Use Option B if you want different contexts for different purposes — for example, one Gem for work and another for personal projects.
NOTE
Gems are available on Gemini Advanced (Google One AI Premium). If you are on the free tier, use Option A — Instructions for Gemini is available on all plans.
